So here I am. A professional furniture upcycler. My hobbie and passion for all that is secondhand has become my job.
With each passing week my feet find another rung on the ladder of my own handmade career.
I’m probably only four feet off the ground, but the height I have reached already makes my heart beat faster.
I’ve gone from filling my own home with my projects to selling it all over the UK. From Glasgow to Brighton people are purchasing Jessica Penrose originals, and it feels extraordinary.
I have an Etsy shop, I’m a member of The Upcycled Hour, The Artisan Markets and my furniture sells on the high end secondhand website Vinterior.
Todays new feet, a website, a blog to add to my teeny tiny social media empire. This is my first every blog post. Be gentle with me.
I’m not entirely sure how I got to this point, but I think this is where I am supposed to be. Upcycling furniture is what I love to do.
Every week I have 25 glorious hours to devote to my business. To find, strip, restore and redesign forgotten furniture. Treasures dug out of charity shop warehouses, junk shops, and roadside skips.
I get to experiment with colour and texture, paint and fabric, old and new, and I absolutely bloody love it.
Right now I feel blessed. It may have taken me a few years to find my vocation. But I’m here now and suddenly everything feels right.
